UAA James W. “Bill” Heavener Football Training Center

W. W. Gay provided all mechanical and plumbing systems for the University of Florida Athletic Association (UAA) James W. “Bill” Heavener Football Training Center, a project designed to support the daily operations and long-term development of Florida football student-athletes and staff.

This 140,000-square-foot indoor training facility serves as the central hub for the football program, offering a modern and highly functional environment tailored to the needs of a competitive Division I athletics organization. Constructed on the former site of the Florida Gators Baseball Stadium, the new facility was strategically designed to address the growing requirements of the team. It includes dedicated meeting rooms, an expansive locker room complex, strength and conditioning spaces, an advanced athletic training room, and coaches’ offices, each located adjacent to the practice field to maximize operational efficiency and practice flow.

In addition to its football-specific areas, the building incorporates resources for all University of Florida student-athletes. The lower front quadrant of the center houses a full-service dining hall, a player lounge, and a variety of outdoor recreation and wellness amenities. These shared spaces help foster a collaborative environment and support the overall athlete experience across multiple sports programs.

Construction of the James W. “Bill” Heavener Football Training Center was completed over 18 months.
