At W.W. Gay, success has always meant more than finishing projects on time or hitting business goals. For us, true success is rooted in service, compassion, and living out the values our founder, Mr. Bill Gay, instilled in this company from day one. One of the clearest reflections of those values is our long-standing and deeply personal partnership with Sidewalk Ministries (previously known as Sidewalk Funday School Ministries)—a local nonprofit that is making a powerful impact right here in Jacksonville.
Sidewalk Ministries is not your typical outreach organization. They meet children and families exactly where they are—on the sidewalks, in housing developments, and in communities often overlooked or underserved. Their mission is to share the hope and love of Jesus with children and families who need it most. Through weekly “Sidewalk” events, they bring Bible teaching, worship, games, meals, school supplies, mentorship, and consistent encouragement directly into neighborhoods facing economic and social hardship.
What sets Sidewalk Ministries apart is their unwavering presence. Week after week, they show up with a message of hope and care. They’ve become a trusted fixture in the lives of the kids they serve, offering not only spiritual guidance but also stability, consistency, and a safe space to grow.
Our relationship with Sidewalk Ministries dates back many years, to a moment when Mr. Gay became their first business supporter. That first donation was more than a financial contribution—it was a statement of shared mission and mutual faith. Mr. Gay saw what Sidewalk was doing and believed in it wholeheartedly. His investment helped the ministry grow into what it is today, and his continued support was a constant encouragement to their leadership.
As the team at Sidewalk Ministries recently shared:
“He had a very astute business acumen, but what set him apart was his giant heart. He was always so kind and gracious. There was not a conversation I had with him where he did not give the Lord credit for His blessings both in business and life.”
Over the years, our support has helped Sidewalk Ministries expand its reach across Jacksonville, bringing the Gospel and practical resources to more neighborhoods. From block parties and holiday events to tutoring and mentoring, Sidewalk is helping transform lives and build stronger communities. They’re not just giving out meals—they’re building relationships. They’re not just offering activities—they’re creating opportunities for children to believe in a brighter future.
Today, that relationship is alive and well. Our own, Tom Smith, proudly serves on the Board of Sidewalk Ministries, continuing Mr. Gay’s legacy of leadership and faith in action.
When Mr. Gay passed, the Sidewalk team took time to reflect on his kindness, generosity, and spiritual leadership. Whether it was a helping hand, a handwritten thank-you note, or simply his presence at community events, he made people feel seen and valued.
We’re proud that this same spirit is still alive in our company today. Whether we’re responding to an emergency call during a hurricane, building a hospital in record time, or showing up for ministries like Sidewalk Ministries, we aim to honor Mr. Gay’s example.
