W. W. Gay was selected to provide the HVAC and plumbing scope for the comprehensive restoration of Ponce De Leon Hall at Flagler College. This project marked the first major restoration effort undertaken since the building’s original construction as the Hotel Ponce De Leon in 1888. Due to the historic nature of the structure, all work was carefully executed to integrate modern mechanical systems while preserving the building’s architectural character.
The two-phase project was completed in the summer of 2024 and included extensive upgrades to the building’s plumbing and HVAC infrastructure. New domestic water and sanitary piping were installed throughout the facility, replacing aging systems and improving overall reliability and performance. The HVAC scope consisted of a complete system replacement, including the installation of new chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems designed to meet modern efficiency and comfort standards.
To support the upgraded HVAC system, W. W. Gay installed a new boiler plant and underground piping for heating hot water distribution. A new chilled water plant was also constructed, along with thousands of feet of new underground chilled water piping. These improvements significantly enhanced the building’s mechanical performance while ensuring long-term serviceability within the constraints of a historically significant structure.
