Mayo Clinic Vertical Expansion (Jacksonville, FL)

W. W. Gay was selected for the Mayo Clinic Vertical Tower Expansion in Jacksonville, FL. In total, this expansion added five brand-new floors and an impressive 250,000 square feet of space, bringing 168 additional patient beds and plenty of room for continued growth.

Kicking off in January 2023, we proudly partnered with Robins & Morton on this major vertical expansion. The scope included a five-story build atop the existing structure, with the 9th floor designed for future patient rooms. Floors 10 through 12 were built out with 168 new patient beds and all the necessary support spaces to provide top-tier care. The 14th floor now houses the critical mechanical equipment, Sky Lounges, and additional support areas. Meanwhile, the existing 6th-floor mechanical space saw new piping, equipment, and pumping systems installed to supply Chilled Water, Heating Hot Water, and Domestic Water services to the new floors. Our involvement spanned from preconstruction through design assist to final execution.

Working on top of an active facility added an extra layer of complexity. Every step had to be carefully planned to avoid disrupting day-to-day operations, and our team rose to the challenge. Through creative problem-solving and strategic pre-fabrication, we minimized installation time onsite and maintained a seamless environment for hospital staff and patients.
Successfully completed in June 2025, this 30-month project stands as a testament to the dedication, quality, and teamwork of our W. W. Gay crew. From planning to execution, the team delivered a high-quality mechanical scope on time and strengthened key partnerships along the way.
